Aoibheann Ni Ealai

Perception and Disconnection
2021
Stained glass, solder, patina, wood
Dimensions: Variable

Aoibheann Ni Ealai’s installation consists of two sculptures; Perception and Disconnection, which explore the effects the pandemic has had on the Catholic church in Ireland by combining the traditional and didactic features of stained glass with a present day topic. In this installation, the mask has been placed two meters in front of the window and it lures the public in by presenting them with the temptation to place their face in it. The artist channels the notion of hope for the future with the combination of a dimly lit room and the light emitting from the stained glass window.
