Henry Malone’s work deals with the material and visual changes in the Northern-Irish Border during the rise of Brexit. Screenshots taken from Google Street View are edited to show the same place captured at different times, in order to document the changing cultural signifiers that are continually being overlaid on the physical environment. Border posts, which once functioned as checkpoints, are now used to display a variety of unauthorized signs, such as advertisements for illegal cheap fuel, or placards protesting against Brexit. Placement is directly informed by the experience of growing up next to the Border.
