Sole touching
2021
Pencil on watercolour paper
Dimensions: 51cm x 38cm
Katie Whelan’s Sole touching is one of a series of drawings and paintings capturing the experience of physical touch, an inherent form of human connection. This drawing is a study of two pairs of feet. The spatial context for this scene of interaction has been entirely removed, focusing attention on the surfaces of the feet, and the space between these two bodies. Sole touching seeks to evoke the sensation of skin to skin contact. It forms part of a larger project exploring various situations of physical and social connection, depicting mundane yet important moments of fellowship.
