Kaylem Davis is interested in the representation of people in society who are deemed to fall short of an ideal standard. In particular, he focuses on those people who are cast out because they are experiencing homelessness, or suffering mental or physical health problems. His work Presence aims to counter, or at least complicate, the representation of those who are perceived to exist on the edges of society. He is particularly interested in observing how these people might be imagined or visualised differently, as though they are ghosts who have been deprived of their identity, living a muted life in the background of everyone else.
