Lady's Brae
2021
Acrylic on canvas board
Dimensions: 35cm x 25cm
Landscape is a key interest for Maureen Fitzpatrick. In particular, she explores the local geology of Portmarnock in Dublin, focusing on rock formations, such as the displaced rocks at the Sutton end of Portmarnock beach. She has also made a study of the river rocks in West Sligo, within an area called The Lady’s Brae, and she is intrigued by the contrast between these landscapes. Working with acrylic, pastels. and compressed charcoal, she endeavours to capture the light, colour and configuration of rock formations, and it is through the prism of intense observation that her images emerge.
