Patryk Kurkowski’s work explores the interaction between two entities, the ‘Call’ and the ‘Response’. The viewer experiences Call as a small synchronised sharp object, accompanied with a repetitive, rhythmic, high-frequency sound. Using stereo manipulation, Call starts in mono and progressively shifts to a wide stereo sound as it searches to meet Response. Visually, Response starts as nothing, until met with a mid-frequency, pulsating, polyrhythmic sound. As it travels closer to the listener, Response appears on screen, as a big, bold, and rounded synchronised visual. It is accompanied by a deep low-end-frequency sound that eventually overshadows its partnered entity.
