Slipper
2021
Photography
Dimensions: 50cm x 70cm

Rebecca Campbell’s photography explores fragility, particularly the fragility suggested by imperfections in the performance of the human body. These photographs refer to ideas of elegance and posture associated with dance, but also to the reality of bodily injury experienced by dancers in search of perfection. Slipper is drawn from a series of images with titles such as Ossify, Arrived and Left, and Extend, Cracked and Fading. Many of these photographs incorporate fragments of flowers, which symbolise youth and temporary perfection, because they bloom but also decay.
