Steffi Kelly is concerned with representations of the body and their means of production. She explores alternative methods of depicting the body such as drawing by touch or through the weight of the body. Paper, with a memory of its own, is particularly suited to exploration of the fluctuating boundaries of the human body. By tracing bodily contours via the push and pull of the body on paper, she bypasses the act of looking at the point of recording, in order to present the body with immediacy and in its own terms. Her work seeks to highlight the ephemeral and ever-changing nature of the living body.
