Will Doyle’s work Mask Up reflects how face coverings have become an integral part of daily life in a relatively short time. Mandatory mask wearing is now commonplace in many parts of the world, and abandoned coverings have quickly added to the detritus littering public roads and footpaths. The face mask affects human behaviour and how we communicate with one another. How have masks become a source of friction, political unrest and suppression for some, while becoming a fashion accessory for others? This work is designed as a site-specific installation, exploring the prevalence of the mask within the everyday physical environment.
